Dear OSGeo Africa Colleagues
I wonder if anyone assist or guide me with some work I am doing.
Based on census data by StatsSA and money budgeted for free basic services in South Africa, there were about 10.1-million indigent households in South Africa in the 2020/21 financial year.
I am trying to establish how many of these estimated 10.1-million indigent households in South Africa are in Eskom areas of electricity supply, and then from this calculate the balance in areas served by municipal electricity distributors.
If there is spatial data from StatSA on the 10.1-million indigent households in South Africa, and there are maps of Eskom areas of supply, then I guess it may be possible to estimate the number of indigent households in Eskom areas of supply, and from this the balance that must be in areas served by municipal electricity distributors.
Just to give you an indication of what I do have:
Eskom indicates that a total of 6.8-million households in South Africa are supplied directly by Eskom, and I would expect that the significant majority of these are in very poor urban and rural areas, and categorised as indigent households in the census data.
Furthermore, one must also not forget that the significant majority of those households that still do not have access to electricity would be situated in Eskom rural areas of electricity supply.
So my question is somewhat different and asks:
How many of the 10.1-million indigent households in South Africa fall within Eskom areas of electricity supply, and how may in areas served by municipal electricity distributors?
Can any geo-spatial data boffins out there provide a reasonably well informed estimate/answer to this question?
Please feel free to contact me directly - details below.

Kind regards
Chris
