We have made several important changes to how the project is managed: - we have introduced "unsupported" modules; allowing early access to community experiments (for a list of supported modules see http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=574856) - we have adopted a formal change proposal system For more information please visit: * http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS/Upgrade+to+2.4 * http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS * http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTDOC Enjoy, The GeoTools Community From warmerdam at pobox.com Mon Feb 11 21:34:34 2008 From: warmerdam at pobox.com (Frank Warmerdam) Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2008 00:34:34 -0500 Subject: [OSGeo-Announce] FDO, GDAL and GRASS Graduate OSGeo Incubation Message-ID: <47B12FEA.1040207@pobox.com> OSGeo is pleased to announce that the GRASS, GDAL and FDO projects have all graduated from the incubation process and are now a full fledged OSGeo projects. Geographic Resources Analysis Support System (GRASS) is a Geographic Information System (GIS) used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics/maps production, spatial modeling, and visualization. http://grass.osgeo.org/ The GDAL/OGR project provides a library and commandline tools for reading and writing geospatial raster and vector file formats. As a library it provides a single abstract data model to the calling application for all formats. http://www.gdal.org/ The FDO data access technology provides an API for manipulating, defining and analyzing geospatial information regardless of where it is stored. FDO uses a provider-based model for supporting a variety of geospatial data sources, where each provider typically supports a particular data format or data store. http://fdo.osgeo.org/ Graduating incubation includes requirements for open community operation, a responsible project governance model, code provenance and license verification and general good project operation. Graduating incubation is the OSGeo seal of approval for a project and gives potential users of the project added confidence in the viability and safety of the project. http://www.osgeo.org/incubator From tom.fukushima at autodesk.com Thu Feb 28 20:43:35 2008 From: tom.fukushima at autodesk.com (Tom Fukushima) Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2008 20:43:35 -0800 Subject: [OSGeo-Announce] MapGuide Open Source 2.0.0 released Message-ID: We are pleased to announce that the MapGuide Open Source project team has released MapGuide Open Source 2.0.0. Release notes: http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/wiki/Release/2.0/Notes. Documentation: http://mapguide.osgeo.org/documentation.html Downloads: http://mapguide.osgeo.org/download Among the many enhancements, the main feature in this release is the integration of Fusion; a flexible, extensible templating system that provides the ability to separate application presentation from its functional components. We have also replaced the use of FastCGI with the more proven ISAPI and Apache mod technologies. The 2.0 milestone page contains the complete list of new features: http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/milestone/2.0 The MapGuide team From warmerdam at pobox.com Fri Feb 29 12:01:22 2008 From: warmerdam at pobox.com (Frank Warmerdam) Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 15:01:22 -0500 Subject: [OSGeo-Announce] GeoWeb 2008 Student Contest Message-ID: <47C86492.2050506@pobox.com> To advance the development of the GeoWeb, Google, Galdos Systems, FGDC and OSGeo are sponsoring a contest, which is open to all full time students attending an educational institution anywhere in the world. The objective of the contest is to materially advance the development of the GeoWeb with either: * A theoretical solution or * A piece of software (All software must be open source and free of any royalties or other encumbrances) Contest winners will be selected by Friday, April 27th, 2008. Winners of the contest will be brought to the GeoWeb 2008 conference in Vancouver, Canada, and all legitimate expenses will be paid by the contest supporters. A cash honorarium will also be provided. Full details are available at: http://geowebconference.org/students-academia/contest-information The theme for GeoWeb 2008 this year is "Infrastructure: Local to Global", and it will be held in Vancouver, BC, Canada from July 21st to 25th, 2008. The GeoWeb conference is one of the only annual conferences focusing exclusively on the convergence of GIS and the Internet, and the economic potential associated with the convergence of XML, web services and geographic information systems. The GeoWeb 2008 conference welcomes both public and private organizations to meet, discuss and learn about today?s most innovative geospatial technologies. The Call for Papers for GeoWeb 2008 is open until March 7th. http://geowebconference.org/
