Design objectives include: * Code must be developed in an Services Oriented Architecture. * Configurability for users. * Easy maintenance for data owners. * A client interface for MapServer, but designed to be open to other server engines. * Targeted use cases for local governments. http://www.geomoose.org/moose/ From warmerdam at pobox.com Fri Mar 7 10:34:42 2008 From: warmerdam at pobox.com (Frank Warmerdam) Date: Fri, 07 Mar 2008 13:34:42 -0500 Subject: [OSGeo-Announce] FDO Open Source 3.3.0 Release Message-ID: <47D18AC2.4080600@pobox.com> We are pleased to announce that the FDO Open Source project has officially released FDO Open Source 3.3.0. Highlights among the new features of FDO 3.3.0 include: - SQL Server Spatial 2008 support -- This FDO Provider is currently available in "beta" form, and intended to work with the Microsoft Community Technical Preview (CTP) program -- The provider will function with AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 beta 2, Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise/Studio 2009 beta and OSGeo MapGuide Open Source v2.0.0 - Addition of an FDO provider for PostGIS -- This FDO Provider is currently being made generally available, but should also be considered as a "beta" release -- The provider will work with OSGeo MapGuide Open Source v2.0.0 - Added FDO Expression Engine support -- Common code that evaluates FDO expressions complete with implementations of all the functions added in RFC8 and RFC11. Can be used for new provider implementations. - Enhanced WMS image format support for png, tiff, jpeg, and gif image types - Improved FDO Schema Manager support for database views For a complete list of the new features, see the 3.3.0 milestone page: Documentation: http://fdo.osgeo.org/documentation.html Downloads: http://fdo.osgeo.org/downloads Regards, The FDO Open Source Team From warmerdam at pobox.com Fri Mar 14 10:01:20 2008 From: warmerdam at pobox.com (Frank Warmerdam) Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2008 17:01:20 -0000 Subject: [OSGeo-Announce] Quantum GIS Graduates OSGeo Incubation Message-ID: <47DAAF47.7050201@pobox.com> OSGeo is pleased to announce that the Quantum GIS project has graduated from the incubation process and is now a full fledged OSGeo project with Gary Sherman appointed as project representative (Vice President, QGIS). Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS) that runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows. QGIS supports many vector, raster, and database formats and lets you browse and create map data on your computer. http://www.qgis.org/ Graduating incubation includes requirements for open community operation, a responsible project governance model, code provenance and license verification and general good project operation. Graduating incubation is the OSGeo seal of approval for a project and gives potential users of the project added confidence in the viability and safety of the project. http://www.osgeo.org/incubator From warmerdam at pobox.com Mon Mar 17 14:13:01 2008 From: warmerdam at pobox.com (Frank Warmerdam) Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2008 17:13:01 -0400 Subject: [OSGeo-Announce] OSGeo accepted for Google Summer of Code 2008 Message-ID: <47DEDEDD.4000102@pobox.com> OSGeo is pleased to announce that Google has accepted OSGeo as mentoring organization for the Google Summer of Code 2008 program. This program provides funding for students to work on open source projects under the support of experienced mentors. The projects participating through OSGeo are OpenLayers, GDAL, GRASS, Mapbender, Quantum GIS, MapServer, GeoServer, GeoTools, uDig, OpenJUMP/Degree. Students interested in participating can find more information on OSGeo project ideas at: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code_2008_Ideas and more information about the program as a whole at: http://code.google.com/soc/ From warmerdam at pobox.com Sat Mar 29 11:53:07 2008 From: warmerdam at pobox.com (Frank Warmerdam) Date: Sat, 29 Mar 2008 14:53:07 -0400 Subject: [OSGeo-Announce] OSBootCamp6/GeoCamp2008 on June 2-3, Ottawa, Canada Message-ID: <47EE9013.9060203@pobox.com> Hello Everyone, It is my pleasure to invite you to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to attend Open Source Bootcamp 6 (aka. Geocamp 2008). Open Source Bootcamp (http://www.osbootcamp.org/) (osbootcamp) is an industry driven mini-conference to provide outreach and training regarding use of open source software. Each osbootcamp event focuses on a theme. The theme for osbootcamp6 is open source geospatial software. The geospatial bootcamp event is also aiming to provide an informal opportunity for the developers of various OSGeo and other open source geospatial technologies to get together for technology planning and development activities. For this reason, we have joined forces with OSGeo and members of the OSGeo community to host this event also known as Geocamp 2008. The event will be running concurrently with the GeoTec event in Ottawa June 2-5 2008. It was felt this event might be nice for those that can't make it to FOSS4G2008 (http://conference.osgeo.org/index.php/foss4g/2008) in Cape Town in September. This free event runs on June 2nd and 3rd on the campus of Carleton University, in Ottawa. June 2nd will be a full day of presentations. June 3rd will be reserved for BOF meetings, code sprints, and get togethers. For more information, and to register, please visit: http://www.osbootcamp.org/osbootcamp6.html Thank you, Andrew p.s. I am fairly new to the OSGeo community having joined this past summer. I met a number of people at FOSS4G in Victoria, but I should still introduce myself. My name is Andrew Ross and I work for Ingres Canada. For those not familiar with it, Ingres (http://www.ingres.com/) is a relational database management system (RDBMS) that re-opened its source code in 2004 and was spun out of Computer Associates in 2005. I work in the engineering team working on Ingres server code. My focus right now is to enhance spatial support provided with Ingres. My passion for open source also has me working to develop Ingres' community and help any who are interested to get involved with Ingres.
