OSGeo and the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science
(UCGIS) sign Memorandum of Understanding

Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, 24 May 2016

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo), represented by
Professor Helena Mitasova, vice-president of OSGeo
and the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science
(UCGIS), represented by Professor Elizabeth Wenz, president of UCGIS,
have signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
to establish a collaborative relationship between the members of the
UCGIS and OSGeo communities.
The goal of the MoU is to encourage the development and distribution
of open access educational resources,
and work on a cooperative research agenda for open source geospatial science.
Among other activities, the groups will use webinars to develop,
share, and exchange ideas and information
in close collaboration with the Geo for All initiative,
(the OSGeo educational and research outreach effort).
The communities will also exchange designated official representatives
to the principal annual meeting of each organization.

About UCGIS
The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science
is a nonprofit organization that creates and supports communities of
practice for GIScience research,
education, and policy endeavors in higher education and with allied
institutions.
UCGIS is the professional hub for the academic GIS community.

About OSGeo
The Open Source Geospatial Foundation is a nonprofit organisation
whose mission is to support and promote the collaborative development
of open source geospatial technologies and data. The Geo for All
initiative, which aims to make geospatial education, research, and
opportunities accessible to all, is the OSGeo Education and Research
outreach.
