Also, thank you to all our students for their commitment and the excellent results produced. Every year the bar is raised a notch! And last but not least, a huge thank you to Google Open Source Team, who made GSoC a reality for the 12th year in a row! We wish all mentors a relaxing winter of code, and welcome our students to stay around and enjoy open source community, this time without deadlines :) Until next GSoC, goodbye! The nominations for the OSGeo Board of Directors started Wednesday 7th [1]. Please take a minute to understand what the board actually does[2]. A director should plan to spend several hours a week on OSGeo business in order to do a good job. The current board members will know best. To nominate a candidate for the board please first confirm with the person that they would like to stand for election as a Board member. Then send an email to cro at osgeo.org CCing the candidate by 12:00 GMT on Tuesday 20.09.2016[3] consisting of: - name and e-mail - current country of residence - a paragraph describing why you think this person would make a good Board member. Remember that only Charter Members are eligible for a seat on the Board and for voting but that *anybody* can *nominate* a board member. Last year was asked, after public nomination, to write to the Discuss mailing list some kind of manifesto about their plans for their term. This is not mandatory at all but a good starting point for discussions and to let the community know what are your ideas about the Foundation. Thank you. Each travel award will cover up to $1,000 USD towards conference-travel related costs. We especially encourage minority and female computer science PhD students to apply. In addition, special consideration will be given to undergraduate students actively participating in research. SIGSPATIAL Travel Grants for International Students The conference organizers are also making SIGSPATIAL funds available to help support the travel expenses of international students. The SIGSPATIAL Travel Grants for International Students will pay $500 USD towards conference related travel costs. Due to limited funds for this program, we will only consider undergraduates and female students for these awards. ________________________________ Selection Criteria The applicant must be a student enrolled at a US University for the NSF Travel Grants or an International University for the SIGSPATIAL Travel Grants and pursuing a PhD degree or be a research-active M.S. or undergraduate student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or technical field related to conference topics. This version has been a qualitative leap, because of all the improvements and novelties, in a functional level, as well as in an architecture one. Downloads are available from the project website [1], and there are two distribitions: installable and portable. Some of the main novelties of this version are the distributions for Mac and for Windows 64 bits, and in reference to the functionalities, the main new features are the PRJ file support for projections, access to Google Maps, Bing Maps or Street View, and LiDAR data support among other. All the novelties can be consulted in [2]. For any error in the application, or for any doubt or question, you can send it to the users mailing list [3], and finally, we want to tell you that your help, although it is small, can be very important to continue improving gvSIG. We encourage you to collaborate [4].
