*OSGeo signs memorandum of understanding with U.S. Department of Interior*
Osaka, Japan, 29 September 2017: The Open Source Geospatial Foundation has
signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States Department of
Interior (DOI). The agreement enables both organizations to coordinate on
the effective use of open source geospatial software and to facilitate
collaboration with the open source geospatial community.
Prof Venkatesh Raghavan, President of OSGeo, said “OSGeo has traditional
roots in projects such as GRASS and MapServer that
were initiated with the support of U.S. Government Departments and
Agencies. The MoU with U.S. Department of the Interior opens up exciting
possibilities for collaboration in furthering the development and
adoptionof Open Source Geospatial Software, Open Data and Open Standards to
enhance access to public data.”
