At our last board meeting (2019-12-30) the new elected OSGeo Board appointed the Executive Positions for OSGeo. We had a very productive discussion and appointed the positions with full consensus. The OSGeo Board is pleased to announce the following executive positions [1] Executive President: Angelos Tzotsos Vice-President: Vicky Vergara Vice-President: Helena Mitasova Vice-President: Victoria Rautenbach Vice-President: Codrina Maria Ilie Treasurer: Michael Smith Secretary: Astrid Emde Board Chair: Till Adams We are pleased to welcome the new OSGeo President Angelos Tzotsos. Angelos is well known in the community and active in many projects. He is part of the OSGeo Board since 2016 and he served as OSGeo Vice-President since 2018. His leadership will be an asset going forward with OSGeo. We decided to accompany the OSGeo President with four Vice-Presidents to share all the commitments an OSGeo President has to satisfy and represent OSGeo at events all over the world; we therefore also welcome Helena Mitasova, Vicky Vergara, Victoria Rautenbach and Codrina Maria Ilie as Vice-Presidents of OSGeo. The Board would like to thank Michael Smith for again volunteering for the role of OSGeo treasurer for another year and continuing to help OSGeo with financial matters. The Board would also like to thank Astrid Emde for again volunteering for the role of OSGeo Secretary. Till Adams volunteered to act as Chair of the Board. This is a non-executive position helping the board follow up on decisions, schedule meetings and keeping the board on track. Please read the OSGeo bylaws to find out more about the Executive Positions [2] We would like to take the opportunity to thank the past members of the OSGeo Board who all have contributed their time and efforts to help build up this amazing community. We are looking forward to a great year 2020 for OSGeo and our Community and wish you all the best! As you may recall, in 2017-18, Mohammed Zia, Andy Anderson, and I launched FOSS4G conference proceedings "Scholarworks" website . Over time, thanks largely to the hard work of Mohammed (and also Andy and Franz-Josef Behr), proceedings were posted for: Volume 18 (2018) - Guimar?es, Portugal Volume 17 (2017) - Boston, USA Volume 16 (2016) - Bonn, Germany Volume 15 (2015) - Seoul, South Korea Volume 14 (2014) - Portland, Oregon, USA Volume 13 (2013) - Nottingham, UK Two other conference proceedings, Volume 17, No. 2. (2017) - Marne La Vall?e, France and Volume 18, No. 2 (2018) - Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania were (understandably!) published separately on the ISPRS website, but we linked to those proceedings on the above Scholarworks site. Since launch in 2017, we've had 27,424 paper downloads and over 1000 in just the last month. The interactive statistics dashboard is here . If the FOSS4G 2019 or 2020 academic track managers (or continental FOSS4G conference academic track managers) want to host their conference proceedings to this site, please contact me (cschweik at umass.edu). Our idea was to keep this repository updated over time with FOSS4G conference proceedings. Both OGC compliance and OSGeo recognition are important steps for the project's community and visibility. Standards are at the core of pygeoapi; achieving OGC compliance and reference implementation status is part of the project's commitment to a modern, open-source and standards-based API server with a low barrier to geospatial data. Scott Simmons, Chief Operations Officer, and Executive Director, Standards Program, OGC, says ?OGC is pleased to see the OGC API - Features - Part 1: Core standard so quickly implemented. The pygeoapi Reference Implementation highlights the collaboration across the geospatial community to develop both the standard and compliant implementations?. pygeoapi is a Python server implementation of the OGC API suite of standards. The project emerged as part of the next generation OGC API efforts in 2018 and provides the capability for organizations to deploy a RESTful OGC API endpoint using OpenAPI, GeoJSON, and HTML. pygeoapi is open source and released under an MIT license. We will guide newcomers and experienced GIS&RS users who have never used a command line terminal to a stage which will allow them to understand and apply very advanced open source data processing routines. Our focus is to enhance a self-learning approach and programming-languages integration. This allows participants to keep on progressing and improving their skills in a continuously evolving technological environment.
