I will follow up later when I have some results on execute. I would actually love the other comparison, on how easy it is to write processes for the different engines.
One thing that threw all my experience for a loop was Andrea taking a holiday and looking at WPS. Bruce pointed out a quote from him earlier in the year about how much open source happens outside of work hours; this is very much a case in point. There is now a user interface allowing you to perform some of the operations from a geoserver web page. He also took some of the annotations I had been working on so you can mark up existing Java static final methods and get them published out of a GeoServer WPS.
The other interesting development was Sextente changing license to be used with Nasa world wind; making it directly usable by GeoTools now. Earlier the wrapper for Sextente needed to be located in GeoServer so they would both be GPL.
