[Aust-NZ] bulk upload of New Zealand geodata to OpenStreetMap

I forget if the news ever made it over to this list, but fyi the
NZOpenGIS group has just about completed its first bulk upload
of gov't (LINZ) data. The chosen prototype area was the Chatham
Islands. (as live road maps for it are not avail. online from any
of the big players)

A single building polygon layer and few final procedural and
clean up items to be addressed before moving onto the mainland.
(merging on the mainland is expected to be rather more
complicated than working with a clean slate like the Chathams;
an improved version of the LINZ road network by NZOpenGPS is
expected to be used instead of the stock LINZ roads; ...)

Rob Coup has written a great web app to handle the LINZ->OSM tag-
translation + PostGIS->osm-xml work.  (not NZ or LINZ specific)

it's a good bunch of folks; of course any and all help is most
welcome; and it would be quite embarrassing for the Australians
if NZ was able to complete their national upload first.  ;-)
