This will give us benchmarks for a high end server which is good (with 
32GB RAM everything will end up being cached in memory). Do we want to 
also run the benchmarks on our lower end box? I think that could make an 
interesting comparison.

After Andrea's comments I'm tempted to say we don't do any 
virtualization and we install/run everything in the same host, making 
sure nobody does something that will break someone else's setup. Xen may 
be fine for CPU bound processes but the report he pointed to mentioned 
poor performance for Xen on the file system benchmarks which is also a 
big factor, at least for MapServer.
