Dear India OSGeo Chapter Members,

While in Pune (India) in August, 2006, I had the
good fortune to discuss about OSGeo with
Prof. S.B. Mujumdar, Chancellor of Symbiosis
Institute (http://www.symbiosis.ac.in/). Symbiosis
Institute is one of the top Tech. and Business school
in India.

I am glad to inform that, Prof. S.B. Mujumdar, has
conveyed his strong support for OSGeo activities in
India and indicated that the Symbiosis Institute for
Computer Science and Research (SICSR;
http://www.symbiosiscomputers.com/v3/home/home.php)
and Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics (SIG,
http://www.symbiosisgeoinformatics.in/gis/About_us.asp)
would have agreed to provide support in software and
application development to OSGeo and India OSGeo
Chapter.

SICSR has been a strong supporter of Open Source
movement in India as evidenced from their GNUinfy
initiative (http://gnunify.sicsr.ac.in/index.php) and SIG
has immense potential for capacity building in Open
Source geospatial solutions.

I will discuss further with Prof Ashish Shah, Deputy Director,
SICSR about involvment in OSGeo activities and keep you
all informed.

Kind regards

Venkatesh
