Hello,
the Open Source Geospatial Foundation is starting to go alive and we
need a press release. To reflect the international scope and the
community leverage that it alread now has we invite you to join in
translating the press release to whichever language is your favourite.
Your contribution will have to be honorary but we would very much like
you to put your name underneath to pronounce the meritocratic character
of the Foundation.
There is a tricky bit in it also. We believe that you as representatives
of your language and culture might want to add an additional paragraph
underneath whats already there adding information that applies to your
local situation that we would never be able to have an insight into.
It might also be a valuable suggestion to propose setting up local
chapters of the OSGeo. These chapters could start off as community
driven initiatives which - after proving to be alive and resourceful -
can request to be set up as individual projects inside the OSGeo
infrastructure (which is the CollabNet environment).
To start off with low overhead we have set up an interim Wiki that
allows for multiple users to change content easily. Please go to this
URL to get started:
http://www.fossgis.de/osgeo/index.php/Talk:Proposed_Press_Release
The original press release text has already been copied to your language
versions, please simply translate it there. Please notice that every
change that you ever do in this Wiki is recorded in the history. The
history cannot be undone. Nonetheless please adhere to the basic rule of
Wiki editing: Be bold.
Once you are done please give us a notice so that we can also freeze the
different language versions. After that the page cannot be edited unless
a Wiki System Operator (OSGeo Fodunation board member) is requested to
unlock the page. This will ensure that the press release text is not
modified by unsolicited people.
If you have questions regarding this process or technology feel free to
contact the board members:

With best regards,
Arnulf Christl - for the interim Board of Directors
