Paul,

It is not critical, but it gives them a degree of responsibility and
a degree of standing to make things happen.

I'm not adverse to revisiting this decision, but our approach has been
that the chairs of *official* committees, *official* local chapters, and
projects that have completed incubation are VPs (aka officers).

I am somewhat concerned about the proliferation of officers.
