Many organisations I know that have presidents then have Past-Presidents. Why not use that term....?

The OpenStreetMap Foundation recently gave Steve Coast the title of Emeritus Chairman, so they presumably felt it was a well known enough term (I've come across it in various contexts):

Arnulf,
I love the concept you are suggesting, but question the name "Emeritus", primarily because it is a term I suspect many are not familiar with. (I needed to look it up). However looking around I can't seem to find the right replacement word.

"Honourable OSGeo Guardian" doesn't sound quite right.

Folks,
this is a short concise summary of what an emeritus board member is:
http://www.governancematters.org/index.cfm?organization_id=56&section_id=1117&page_id=7635

I would like to be recognized as an emeritus board member and continue
to promote OSGeo as best I can. So far I have used "I was the last
president", "Ex-president", "was on the board of directors" but they
all somehow have this "Ex" sound to it and compel to continue thinking
"and then left because ... ?, she wasn't happy / no good / for good,
because they suck, because they thought she sucks) and so on.
Therefore I want to propose to have a regular emeritus status.

To avoid the cons listed in the link above we can either leave it to
the outgoing member to ask for it (which I herewith do) or let the
current board (or maybe a charter member) make a motion to this
effect. Or something else that I have not thought of, obviously.

And btw: Thanks for keeping the wheel turning. I am very happy to see
that things are continuing to work well!

Cheers,
Arnulf
