Hi,
I very much appreciate that you start to put thought into this and am happy to help wherever I can. So far all that has been said makes sense (except that I think the overlap with the advocacy group is not that significant).

The biggest questions in my eyes are how to achieve transparency of the process and how to compile a comprehensive body of knowledge that can be stated as requirement to pass.

I am still busy at Intergeo but will answer in more length when I am back.

Thanks, Arnulf

I'm taking a previous email thread which started covering Open Source
Geospatial into the public OSGeo Board list.

An idea floated was that the OSGeo Foundation could/should possibly get
involved in the OSGeo Certification process, possibly by certifying the
certifiers.

My thoughts are:
* OSGeo certification is a worthy idea
* The running of OSGeo certification program will be time consuming, and
should be run by private enterprise, according to open processes (as
already outlined).
* The OSGeo Foundation could potentially endorse the process, although
the OSGeo Foundation needs to be wary of providing favours to one
business over another.
* There is some cross over between the Open Source GeoSpatial
Certification program and OSGeo Advocates List, in that both provide a
way to advertise and rate OSGeo experience. I feel there is opportunity
for synergies between the two, with the potential for them to be merged
under one banner.

As Arnulf has originally proposed the business model, I'm interested to
hear his thoughts.
