I'm not sure how these proposed changes on Dec 23rd affect our tax
exempt status/application (http://www.irs.gov/irb/2013-52_IRB/ar18.html).

Patrick Temple West <Patrick.Temple-West at thomsonreuters.com> of Reuters
contacted me last week, as he's doing research on a story because of the
IRS proposed rulemaking regarding 501(c)(4)'s. A lot of articles are
saying this rulemaking will ultimately impact 501(c)(3)'s and
501(c)(6)'s, and Patrick's argument was that Open Source and Free
Software organizations should care since we were on that original list
of organizations that were being queued.

I skimmed over the rulemaking at
http://www.irs.gov/irb/2013-52_IRB/ar18.html and I'm not convinced that
any (c)(3) or (c)(6) should actually care about it, particularly if they
don't have an interest on their ability to influence public opinion on
issues that relate to election of specific candidates. Anyone have a
different view on that?

That said, this Reuters journalist, Patrick, was still interested in
talking to Open Source and Free Software orgs that have had trouble
getting (c)(3) or (c)(6) status. I told him I'd pass along his email
address to this list in case anyone here wanted to contact him.
