All,

I helped with the Minneapolis FOSS4G-NA event, and not to add fuel to the fire, so to speak, but I've been wondering a
bit about where the limits are/should be for participation by OSGEO for event planning. I've been pondering the
organization of a regional event 100 to 150 (200?) attendees. I think there is enough interst for something like this
in our local area. It might require a slight modification of focus on the event, possibly more OSS promotion/sales
based vs Technical (and/or the reverse). It could also be held in partnership with existing local events.

My "agitation" question to you all is, where is/should the line be for marketing smaller events be at with regard to
calling it something "OSGeo"? I know there are numerous similar events that have happened around the world from time to
time. If this is indeed something that could/should officially be thought of as an OSGeo event, how should the
participation by OSGeo be established with regard to helping out in these smaller regional events. I know there is a
percetion or feeling that smaller events like this might rob somewhat from the regularly scheduled events, although if
partnering rules with OSGeo as an organization are established, then end goal of acquire operational revenue would still
be workable, and possibly even increased.
