What about running a PayPal account? It also has a cost, but is much lower (a percentage of the sum transferred) and worth for smaller amounts. It also makes it really easy to do a transfer. With GeoCat (and I'm sure many others as well) we have good experience with PayPal for transfers to and from the most remote places where a wire transfer is really expensive.
