I would just like to clarify that there are three different events taking place in short succession in Girona:

a) General Spanish FOSS GIS conference
b) QGIS User conference
c) QGIS Hackfest

Events a + b are paid-to-attend events by attendees. Event c is a non paid event (hackers donating their time to work on QGIS) and is typically sponsored from a mix of local organiser funds, self funding by attendees and QGIS funds from sponsors etc. There is zero chance that c will ever make a profit since we do not charge an attendance fee of monetise it in any way. Lluis’ intent is to support a large chunk of the costs (particularly accommodation for 28 people and meals for all) of (c) from the activities in (a+b). QGIS fund will also supports the event primarily through travel and accommodation support. Lluis can clarify any misrepresentations I have made above if needed. Luis’ concern is about whether there will be sufficient income from a+b to cover the costs of c - hence his request to OSGEO for support.

So in summary, there will definitely be no profit from c.
There may be a profit from a+b in which case there could be an arrangement struck with Lluis - it is up to his team to agree on that.

I hope that clarifies things a little.

Regards

Tim
