Hello Board,

thanks for the feedback so far regarding the proposal to have OSGeo officially sign the online commitment statement of the Enabling FAIR Data project (http://www.copdess.org/enabling-fair-data-project/commitment-to-enabling-fair-data-in-the-earth-space-and-environmental-sciences/).

AFAIK there is currently no hard deadline for the signing of the commitment statement, so the Board can discuss the topic with ample time.

The projects goal is to permanently establish the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) as a step towards Open Science. From this point of view, open source software, like the graduated OSGeo projects) are considered a part of scientific _data_, which is/should be provided via well curated data repositories (i.e. software repository infrastructures as required by the OSGeo incubation process).

More info about the project here: http://www.copdess.org/enabling-fair-data-project/commitment-to-enabling-fair-data-in-the-earth-space-and-environmental-sciences/

Overview of the signatories so far:

best,
Peter
