[Board] Sponsoring FOSS4G 2018

In order to let the LOC know about the availability of the sponsorship soon, as time is very strict, might I suggest Jeff not to block  and to present another motion about Tanzanite sponsorship? In this way the LOC knows immediately that there is at least the availability of the platinum sponsorship and we have some days for voting about next level. What do you think, Jeff, about that?

Hi Jeff,

In order for Loomio to represent your vote correctly (as a -1 or a veto vote) can you please change your vote on Loomio to "Block"?

Please interpret my vote as a "-1" (see Board Voting procedure at https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_Voting_Procedure), where I have disagreed but also suggested an alternative solution. I feel that the OSGeo Board can instead provide the top-level sponsorship ("Tanzanite" at 30,000 USD), since it is OSGeo's event, so that the LOC can apply those funds as they choose (such as video recording & processing).

So I am proposing that the sponsorship vote/wording be changed to sponsor FOSS4G 2018 with the highest sponsorship available.

I think this will help the local committee and give them more funds available to help make this event great.

So, we had some discussion about this on previous IRC meetings. As this year we didn't give any seed money for the organization of the main FOSS4G, we were planning to give sponsorship money. Remember that not used money goes back to OSGeo anyway.

This year there is a special effort on Travel Grant, so most of the sponsorship money will be used for it. We want to support and push OSGeo in Africa.
