+1 to Jody's approach.
Best,

+1, I believe that OSGeo should manage the allocation of our funds to
OSGeo initiatives, typically through OSGeo committees. I don't think we
should be paying membership to other organisations which is effectively
delegating the responsibility of distributing funds to another organisation.

I would like to be firm in our stance on contributing free software to
these relationships (this goes for LocationTech and OGC as well).
I am open to the reciprocal support for organizations such as this one
that are focused on having membership include a financial component.
So if they would like to sponsor us we can turn around and take out a
membership with that money.
We can also suggest a “guest membership” which is what we have with a
LocationTech to formalize the relationship without a financial commitment.
I do think it is important to meet organizations with the tools they are
comfortable with (rather than turnning everything into a MOU).

Hi,
I received this news from OpenAR initiative, which is going forward. We
signed a letter to support them and now they are asking us to be founding
members. Membership appears to be a paid thing.
I don't know how you see this, but as this is still not part of OSGeo
software, maybe we should not go further. I would say we should focus our
budget inside, not outside.
On the other hand, we can make it part of OSGeo as a requirement to be
members and include the membership as part of the budget for those projects
(in incubation, at first). Not so sure how this could evolve, or if this
will be an unfair treatment with other projects.

Subject: Fwd: UPDATE: Open AR Cloud (OARC) is Ready for Liftoff!
To: María Arias de Reyna <delawen at gmail.com><mailto:delawen at gmail.com>
Hi Maria,
This summer Open-ARCloud initiatives joined forces with similar
initiatives. We are going to launch publicly tomorrow at AWE EU as Open AR
Cloud
HTTPS://openarcloud.org
We have the same mission and goals and hope that OSGeo.org will consider
joining Norkart, Kartverket.no, Open Geospatial Consortium and the rest of
the 16 current Founding Partners. Founding Partners have at least one year
of free membership
If OSGeo would like to become a Founding Partner you will need to decide
by the 1st of November. Details on how to join is listed below.
Best regards,
Jan-Erik Vinje, Managing Director of Open AR Cloud
*Open AR Cloud (OARC) is Ready for Liftoff!*
Join us in Münich, October 18 for the first official working group
meetings in the history of OARC at 3pm in room K4 at Augmented World Expo
(AWE).
We believe that an open and interoperable AR Cloud ecosystem is critical
to the future of spatial computing. We believe that a democratic and
collaborative effort that upholds the values of privacy and freedom and
balances the need for personal and public safety is essential. We believe
NOW is the time to start designing, building and creating the AR
Cloud...together.
*Sign up now to become a Founding Memberbefore November 1st!*
Visit this site to sign up and choose your working-groups or suggest a
new one - and make a dent in the universe! https://openarcloud/
<https://openarcloud.org><https://openarcloud.org>
Founding Members will have at least one year of free membership in OARC
and will be known as pioneers of the spatial computing era, and mentioned
on our site.
*Make your organization a Founding Partnerbefore November 1st!*
If your organization would like to contribute to this effort and you
support the mission of OARC, please send an email to OARCs Managing
Director jan-erik.vinje at norkart.no<mailto:jan-erik.vinje at norkart.no>
Include these items in the email:
1. Contact Details: including name, title and email
2. Organization Logo: svg or high res png format preferred
3. Statement of Support: include one-liner or short paragraph
stating support or endorsement of OARC organization or values.
*We choose interoperability as a foundational principle for all our
efforts*
The success and impact of web-technology rests in large part on the fact
that it “just works” across a huge range of platforms and devices. This is
possible because the web allows anyone to build a browser, a web page or a
powerful web app based on a shared set of standards and formats. Open AR
Cloud is inspired by the interoperability of the web and will encourage the
tech sector to leave the walled gardens and silos behind to make
interoperability a foundational principle of AR Cloud technology.
*The Open AR Cloud Index + Shared Frame of Reference for GeoPose/Geo6Dof*
There is going to be a real need for shared interoperable indices for the
many layers of data that will provide value in spatial computing. We expect
many private and parallel indexes, and will work to ensure they are built
on common protocols and accessible by all platforms.
We are planning to start designing and building*“The Open AR Cloud
Index”*. We want to make it available as a shared decentralized
infrastructure, accountable and open for the whole world. To build this,
we must establish a shared geospatial frame of reference for the position
and orientation of all things, including xr-devices, digital, spatial and
sensor data and objects, vehicles, drones, robots and more. We are
considering a distributed ledger of Geo6DOF/GeoPose references to AR Cloud
datasets (including where they are hosted & and how they are consumed).
*Privacy and Security:*
We have drafted a*“Manifesto for AR Cloud Solutions”* that will be
published during our official launch on October 18th. This is an expression
of a set of 7 principles that we believe every participant in the spatial
computing sector should support. These are early days and much is unknown,
so please join in the discussion and help us bring in a wider community of
stakeholders to this critical conversation. The plan is to get the
manifesto codified as a version 1.0 early next year.
*About Open AR Cloud (OARC):*
We are a non-profit organization with a mission to coordinate and drive
the development of open and interoperable AR Cloud technology, data and
standards in order to connect the physical and digital worlds for the
benefit of all. We offer membership for individuals and organizations who
can participate in working groups and projects. We intent to design,
create, build and deploy an open, interoperable AR Cloud ecosystem for all
of humanity.
*Founding Partners as of today*
