Hello everyone,
I saw the message on the geoforall lab listserv. A nice certification model
can be found with the QGIS project. QGIS has had a Certification Program
for the last two years, which I help manage. The program is designed to
promote both community involvement in the QGIS project and quality
education for QGIS software. As such the application process requires
applicants to both detail their contributions to the QGIS project and make
their training materials available for review. Once approved organizations
can offer QGIS certificates for their courses and workshops.
A 20 euro donation is made to the QGIS project for each certificate issued.
It's a win win win. Students get a certificate to help build their CV,
courses become more attractive because a certificate can be earned, and
QGIS receives revenue from the program. More information can be found here:
https://qgis.org/en/site/getinvolved/certification.html

Cheers,
Kurt

*Dear all,*

*Last week we had a telemeeting between GeoForAll Iberoamérica's
(G4A-IbA) co-chairs Antoni Pérez Navarro (Open University of Catalunya,
Spain) and Silvana Camboim (University of Paraná, Brazil), and the
translator and designer of the Spanish Edition of GeoForAll newsletter
Paulo Cesar Coronado (University Francisco José de Caldas, Colombia). In
that meeting we decided the planning of a free online extension course (in
Spanish and maybe also in Portuguese) to be organized between the
University of Paraná (Brazil) and the University F. J. de Caldas (Colombia)
as an initiative of G4A-IbA to all Iberoamerican OSGeo Community. The
course will be 80 hours long. approx. with a program developed between the
4 laboratories that participated in the meeting, and with the participation
of other GeoFoAll IbA labs that would like to do it. Students will have
certification from at least the above-mentioned Universities. For
instructors we thought that a good idea will be to have certification from
OSGeo. Will this be possible? Is there any experience in something similar?*

*Thank you,*
