Hi OSGeo board,
time flies.
A decade ago, OSGeo started to preserve FOSS4G conference recordings and historical FOSS GIS videos not just on YouTube, but on the Open Access video platform (AV-Portal) operated by TIB Hannover, the German National Library of Science and Technology. Our video heritage is being long term preserved and is recognised as part the global scientic heritage, citable in scientific literature by FAIR persistent identifiers, DOI (e.g. https://doi.org/10.5446/12963). The videos are neatly stored in series, which represent individual conferences for easy access: https://av.tib.eu/publisher/Open_Source_Geospatial_Foundation_%28OSGeo%29
By now, over 1800 OSGeo-related videos are available in the AV-Portal. It would take almost 30 days to binge-watch them straight in a row. This is an excellent and continuously growing knowledge base for the OSGeo projects and communities.
TIB is currently celebrating the first 10 years of the AV-Portal success story online (https://blog.tib.eu/2024/03/06/10-years-tib-av-portal-10-years-of-science-in-video-format/).
The global OSGeo community is benefiting from public services provided by TIB to scholars around the globe, funded by German taxpayers.
The German FOSSGIS community just posted a thank you / happy birthday note for thw TIB AV-Portal on Linkedin (https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7190734197181792256/).
I have a feeling that TIB, and the people within TIB operating the AV-Portal and curating our videos, would appreciate a similar message from OSGeo.
Kind regards,
Peter
