RNFdev Thinking through polygon creation

There are two points of reference.

1. The PAGC primer I threw together that I have just posted to the list.
2. A 12 step process was beautifuly outlined by Dan. Find it here

https://geodata.osgeo.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=can_rnf&msgNo=9

Hope this gives a good background. Let us know if we can fill in holes.
Notice how intensive the process is on R and OGR...

I am curious is there are better things out there to deal with parsing,
matching and categorizing text strings. I know people talk about AWK,
SED and PERL all the time.... Could these tools be combined with R to
help process out lists?

Dan / Dave,

Forgive me for butting in, but could you give a wee bit of background on
the approach you are taking to establishing the FSA polygons?

I'm getting the impression there are PDFs of the polygons that we can
use for manual (and possibly automated?) purposes? Also, there was
mention in some previous message of having street names or something
similar for the FSA boundaries - is that right?

Best regards,
