I'm making my comments based on the two Word documents
attached to your prior email, because the wiki lacks
formatting that will be part of the actual documents.
As a general statement, all documents for the public
need to be available in OpenOffice.org format as well
as MS Word format.
Review Criteria
===============
1)
Please review the FOSS4G2007 Workshop Selection Process
Lessons Learned:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G2007_Lessons_Learned#Selection_Process
2)
This line:
makes use of software that is both "free" and "open source"
needs to be changed, so as not to penalize submissions
that include non-free and/or "closed source" software,
given how this year's conference is structured.
3)
Change reference to FOSS4G2006 to FOSS4G2007
Submission Template
===================
1)
It shouldn't be titled "CALL FOR WORKSHOPS SUBMISSION".
It's the submission template, not the Call.
2)
"Workshop" and "Lab" should be capitalized everywhere.
3)
Needs a short intro at the start as a reminder - maybe
something like this:
Workshops are 3 hours, and Labs are 90 minutes.
Both are hands-on classroom sessions.
4)
Everywhere "Workshop" or "Lab" is used, both should be
used (e.g. "Workshop/Lab", "Workshop or Lab", etc.).
5)
Rewording:
Please note that this submission is not the complete
Workshop/Lab, but a preview to convince the committee
that this Workshop/Lab session is required at FOSS4G2008.
6)
Rewording:
You may make multiple Workshop/Lab submissions for
consideration by the Workshop Committee.
7)
Rewording:
You may submit "the same" content for both a Workshop and
a Lab session, provided you can adapt the content to deliver
a good session in both time formats.
8)
Do not use the word "presenter" anywhere, in any document
or webpage that relates to Workshops/Labs. Use "Instructor".
"Presenters" are the people who will be doing the Presentations
during the conference, Speakers will be Speaking, etc.
Remember, Instructors will be getting discounts, whereas
Presenters may not be getting discounts.
9)
Personal info:
- why ask for "name" and "surname" - either use one line,
or ask for "first name" and "surname"
- keep all the 'personal info' together - not part of it
at the start, and then 'presenter info' later on
- remove the 'boxes' - they don't work when filling out
an electronic copy of the template
- the User Level section has formatting problems
- get rid of "I am registering for" - they aren't registering
for anything - they are making a submission
- no point in having "Technical Requirements (choose one):"
with nothing to choose from
- What is the purpose of this sentence, and which section is
it supposed to be in? "Please provide us with your ideal
requirements and or suggested solution(s) to provide the
maximum exposure to attendees to your workshop/ lab session."
- "Other valuable information" section:
- remove the first paragraph (it's unnecessary)
- fix the wording of the second paragraph - for example:
If your Workshop/Lab has been delivered before, either with
the same or substantially the same content, please supply
the committee with the following information:
- Where/When
- Name of Conference, Symposium, Venue, etc.
- Title
- Names of any co-instructors
10)
In the document, and on the wiki, spell Jeff's first name
properly(Jeff, not Jeoff).
