Hi Michael,
Congratulations, and welcome to the FOSS4G club.

A number of us have been slowly building a FOSS4G Handbook, which 
hopefully should be of value as you go through the process of running 
the conference:

In it we have been collating some of the best practice ideas we have 
been coming across. It is far from complete, but I'd encourage you to 
ask questions on this list as you reach certain milestones, and if it is 
not covered in the cookbook, we can add it at the time.
