We are organizing a bid to host the 2010 FOSS4G conference in Denver and
are soliciting support and interest from the North American geospatial
community (and beyond). During the bid process, we are specifically looking for:

* FOSS leaders to join the Local Organizing Committee (LOC)
* Letters of Support from user groups, government agencies, businesses, and
academic organizations

If you are interested in contributing in any way, please contact Eric
Wolf at ebwolf@usgs.gov.

The LOC currently includes:

Eric B. Wolf, USGS Center of Excelence in GIS, Shapelib, GDAL/OGR user
Peter Batty, President of Spatial Networking, PostGIS user, ex-CTO of Intergraph
Ben Tuttle, National Geospatial Data Center, WorldWind developer
Charlie Savage, CEO of MapBuzz, lead developer of ruby-prof
Brian Timoney, The Timoney Group, Google Earth developer, PostGIS User

We have an agreement with GITA (the Geospatial Information and Technology
Association), also based in the Denver area, to handle all the conference
logistics. GITA has been successfully running international geospatial-oriented
conferences since 1978 including the 2006 and 2007 GeoWeb conference.
GITA's experience running large international geospatial conferences helps
ensure the success of the conference and allows the LOC to focus on creating
a great program.

Denver and the Colorado Front Range is well-known for a diverse FOSS and
closed-source geospatial community. And having just hosted the Democratic
National Convention, Denver bosts a wide range of conference venues.

The LOC feels that our diverse backgrounds, with the help of GITA, will allow
us to create a FOSS4G conference that will bring greater commercial exposure
to FOSS while providing a supportive environment for the continued development
of FOSS projects.

Details of the RFP can be read at:

http://www.osgeo.org/conference/rfp

Sincerely,
Eric Wolf and the Denver LOC.
