The Degree Confluence Project (DCP) is not
"open source" as in having it's 'source code'
(primarily PHP) in a publicly accessible
repository, with suitable licensing, but the
project's founder had that possibility in
mind right from the project's start.

A few years ago there was a proposal from a
corporation to fund development work by a
combination of some of the DCP folk and their
own programmers to 'convert' the DCP into
something they could use for a project that
had nothing to do with "confluences", but would
use the same 'public contribution model'
(i.e. public contributes photos and text).
That project never happened, because they never
found the funding for the project.

Other than the 'source for the website',
everything else about the DCP is "open".
Anyone in the world can participate, and it's
completely non-commercial. The project management
is done by volunteers from around the world:

In addition to being the Canadian Coordinator,
I'm one of the "technical coordinators" for the
DCP(website issues, programming, new content, etc.).

If you have any questions about the DCP, feel free
to ask them here, or on the ConfluenceProject group
on Yahoo:

or you can contact me directly.
