I'm not sure, but AFAIU the current scheme, it look like this:

project.osgeo.org - project website with detailed info about docs, 
downloads, mailing lists, dedicated menu, etc.

osgeo.org/project - short info sheet about a project that is hosted 
externally, under its own domain
