Dear all,
As of today, the Athens Urban Transport Organization (www.oasa.gr), announced
the availability of the public transport data (routes, schedules) for the City
of Athens, under a CC-BY-v3.0 license.
The data is currently provided through geodata.gov.gr ([1], available in Greek)
and follow the GTFS format.
One of the first users of the data set is Google Transit (a public announcement
is expected this Wednesday), while there are numerous Greek companies working
hard to integrate the data in their products and services.
Kudos to the Greek Open Data community, which provided vocal support for 12
months now, ever since the first brainstorming session took place at GeoDataCamp
2010 [2].
We expect that the immediate gains for the public and the visitors of Athens
will serve as another solid example for the importance of open data.
On behalf of the geodata.gov.gr team,
Spiros
