[OSGeo-Discuss] how to use gdal_calc.py?

how to use gdal_calc.py? I am getting a syntax error in inputfile. Can
anybody help me? please suggest me how can I use gdal_calc.py. 

error is like 

>>> gdal_calc -A 'D:\\Softwares\\GDal\\Samples\\cknp_dem_30m.tif'
>>> -outfile=t.tif --calc=A/2 
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
