Hola María,

Primero que nada quería felicitarlos por esta iniciativa, realmente estamos muy contentos de que la geomática libre se esté extendiendo por toda Latinoamérica.

Mi nombre es Mauricio Miranda y soy miembro del directorio del capítulo hispanohablante de OSGeo [1].

Dentro del capítulo, hace tiempo venimos trabajando en la idea de hacer una conferencia Latinoamericana de SIG Libre. No sé si están al tanto, pero este año, por primera vez, han tenido lugar otra dos conferencias FOSS4G además de la principal [2] que tendremos en septiembre en Beijing. El FOSS4G Norteamericano tuvo lugar el pasado abril en Washington DC [3] y el FOSS4G Europeo que se hizo en mayo en Praga [4].

Esta situación, nos motivó mucho más para organizar un FOSS4G Latinoamericano y nos pusimos en campaña para lograrlo. En la primera de las reuniones generales del capítulo [5], algo que implementamos este año, se discutió un poco de este tema y surgieron tres potenciales sedes: La Habana, Santiago y Buenos Aires.

En paralelo con esto, se armó el grupo de Geoinquietos Buenos Aires [6], que ha tomado la responsabilidad de organizar el evento en esta ciudad. Por ahora, sólo se ha planteado una serie de puntos importantes a resolver sobre los que se irá avanzando con el tiempo y se definió, como potencial fecha, abril de 2013.

Más allá de esto, que te cuento para que sepan más o menos qué y cómo hemos venido trabajando, me parece muy importante que la fundación, desde el capítulo hispanohablante y desde la estructura principal, les demos todo el apoyo posible para que la conferencia sea un éxito.

Me gustaría que entremos en contacto para saber qué necesitan y definir lo antes posible de qué forma podemos ayudarlos.
