Dear friends,
Many thanks to Venka and Suchith for nomination and support.
I am Vietnamese but have been doing my research works around the world from Thailand, Japan to Sweden and now Malaysia. Though it is to introduce myself, I'd like to update everyone the progressing OSGEO activities in Malaysia.
I started engaging with Open-Source since 2000 during my postgrad studies to support my research works and partly due to my hobby. My research is more to remote sensing techniques and applications and I have been developing numerous tools using different computer languages, currently I am developing on top of Orfeo Toolbox. I also developing teaching material using QGIS and Orfeo Toolbox for GIS and remote sensing modules at our MSc teaching level.
What I have done along my career, please refer to my profile on linkedin.

Joining Uni. of Nottingham based in Malaysia, I established my OSGEO research group with strong support from Nottingham Geospatial Institute in late 2011. In Malaysia, I am participating and delivering talks on OSGEO in different meetings and conferences, providing training for industry. I've learnt that there are a small number of OSGEO enthusiasts here and all is working hard to enhance the public awareness so that I believe the number is growing.
In mid-2012, together with colleagues at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), we established our local chapter. We were very happy to have Manning (Philippines) and Franz-Josef (Germany) present and lending their support.
UTM is also setting up its OSGEO lab. There's a very good sign here, the government is planning to deploy Linux and OSGEO for managing geospatial data at local authorities.
I'd like to thank everyone in our community, you have been significantly contributing to build up a strong foundation for OSGEO, which helps me a lot in making it happens here in Malaysia.
Feel free to drop me a line for any further discussion.
Cheers,
Thuy

I would like to second this nomination.
Thuy is also actively contributing to our education efforts. He established and lead the first Open Source Geospatial Lab in Malaysia at UNMC and is now supporting colleagues in other universities in Malaysia and across Asia in establishing Open Source Geospatial labs in their universities.
