Hi
OSGeo India wishes all the best to this Sri Lankan effort. Hope this can lead to OSGeo-ICA labs in other countries of south Asia.
Cheers

Dear All,
I am happy to announce that two OSGeo labs will be inaugurated in Sri
Lanka in the next month.
Actual dates and time will be announced here shortly.
One OSGeo lab will be established at the University of Moratuwa and
another will be established at the Sri Lanka Institute of information
Technology. They will become a part of worldwide network of OSGeo
labs. The aim of these labs is promoting the use of free and open source
GIS tools among students and the Sri Lankan community. They will be used
for teaching and research activities related to open source GIS.
OSGeo labs are being established around the world based on ICA-OSGeo
Lab initiative. In 2011, OSGeo and the International Cartographic
Association (ICA) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim
of developing on global basis collaboration opportunities for academia,
industry and government organizations in open source GIS software and
data. The motto of ICA-OSGeo Lab initiative is "Geo For All". This
initiative aims at providing expertise and support for the establishment
of Open Source Geospatial Laboratories and Research Centers across the
world for supporting development of open-source geospatial software
technologies, training and expertise. Over 40 Open Source Geospatial
Labs have already been established in universities around the world.
