In case you haven't found it out yourself yet: the OSgeo_logo_guide (as of 2007) states it's the Vera Sans font:

I'd imagine you could do something creative with Platinum,Gold,Silver,Bronze colours with the logo.

​Too bad all the label are path elements rather than text elements. Does anyone of you know which font is used in the logos?
