Thanks to Julia and ECMWF colleagues for their hardwork and efforts for putting together a very successful event in the weekend bringing together an excellent group of amazing and kind people volunteering their time and expertise to improve the Global Flood Awareness System (GloFAS).

I am sure Julia will send us all the updates for the hackathon soon. Meanwhile some photos and event updates (including the projects that were developed) are at the website at http://floodhack.devpost.com

Thank you for all those who have registered and volunteered thier time and expertise for helping improve the Global Flood Awareness System (GloFAS) for the hackathon at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) http://www.ecmwf.int/ on this weekend.

I understand from Julia that many people from variety of expertise have registered. I did my best to get the info. dissiminated through various maillists to get more outreach for increasing the usage of GloFAS.

I am also interested in how we can get more organisations (esp. in the local level) to make use of GLoFAS for better preparedness and helping save lives.

Julia will post the outcomes of the Hackathon in the list after the event, so we can get (even those who were not able to attend) to be contribute more ideas for this.

I am aiming to be there on 16th only for the wholeday ( i have some family commitments that i need to attend on 17th). I look forward to see many of you there.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Frequency of extreme weather events are increasing which is very worrying. Really sad to see the devastation caused by heavy flooding across parts of Northern England and Scotland happening now by Storm Desmond. We all need to work together as a global family to find solutions [1] to these global challenges.

I have decided to do my best to get as many colleagues globally who have the expertise to contribute their expertise to improve the Global Flood Awareness System. If any of you have hydrological modelling expertise and willing to contribute your expertise for this hackathon to improve the Global Flood Awareness System (GloFAS) in Reading (16/17
Jan 2016), please join at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/floodhack-help-improve-the-global-flood-awareness-system-tickets-19819558834

Want to develop tools to save lives? ECMWF is organising a hackathon on the Global Flood Awareness System (GloFAS) to make the system more flexible and easier to use.
GloFAS provides global forecasts of extreme flood events and is used by international institutes like the Red Cross and World Food Programme as an information tool during crisis.

The hackathon will take place at ECMWF (Reading, UK) on 16/17 January 2016 - get more information under http://www.ecmwf.int/en/hackathon-announcement-global-flood-awareness-system.
