Dear Marc,

that I'm not misunderstood, I highly appreciate the very hard work for the website redesign and rebranding!! And as already mentioned in an earlier mail by me, I understand that the redesign is in beta.

Citing Angelos in this thread:

"I also think that we need to be *very careful* on how we will list the projects in our new web site."

That was my intention to start this discussion.

As I'm already volunteering amongst others as OSGeo`s GSoC admin this year, see my first post as food for thought for improvement and input for the process; that is what my time permits ... 

Maxi's suggestions of a freezing period sounds good.

Dear all,

I feel that the "tail is wagging the dog" as they say. And we are on the brink of pushing valuable volunteers too far. Again.

Your feed back on the website is needed, welcomed and enlisted, but please be it combined with some actionable way to go forward and a helping hand. The site is still in full progress,  if one looks behind the scenes; there is a really massive content creation thrust going on, the visitor journey experience is enhanced on a daily basis, a multitude of tweaks in progress and ..... the FOSS4Paris and Foss4gBoston preparations had to be done too.

It is not the the Marketing Committee that has to fix anything regarding projects and policy related issues here.
Jody and many others have had to make decisions - lacking input on various occasions- in good faith. Often lacking clear direction and decisions and actual support. This inefficiency has often resulted in rework and loss of volunteer time. The Committee is fully aware that there are still iterations to be done. Up till now they have done something extraordinary, unparalleled in recent OSGeo years. Some slack is in good order.

By the way. The projects that are listed have all an OSI approved license. That has sufficed in the past. Let the free vs open discussion rest till a later date (if it needs to be conducted at all). Subdivisions of projects can be done in various ways: pleasing everyone in our community is a holy grail. 

And again. Please be aware that there is a finite number of volunteer hours in a volunteer day.

Jody, I have to go so I don't have time to write more but this needs to be fixed instantly to avoid massive backlash against the new website. After so much effort it would be heartbreaking to have a negative reaction just because we would be perceived  as providing advertising platform for projects which are not really free and open source (I guess we will hear more about this from Stallman tomorrow).

Wouldn't it be preferable to use that page as landing page when using the link http://osgeo.getinteractive.nl/projects/[http://osgeo.getinteractive.nl/projects/] directly?

This is going to be an interesting week collecting feedback when lots of the website is not working as designed quite yet (examples tagging and sorting). To be fair the vast majority of project descriptions were entered last weekend so this is our first chance to try things out with actual content :)

I'm following the new website and branding process a little bit by the mailing lists.

is there anywhere a documented discussion or a documented and approved decision about how the project selection to be listed on the OSGeo website is done? I can't find anyone.

To be inclusive is one side; not to distinguish OSGeo projects from other software projects from other initatives (e.g. locationtech) or GIS vendors without any supplement words in the OSGeo website, I'm feeling unconformable with it.
