Dear All,
This is to let the OSGeo community know that we have submitted the
application as a mentoring organization to Google Summer of Code (GSoC)
2017 on behalf of OSGeo! Google program administrators will review the
applications until 26 February, and the accepted organizations will be
announced on 27 February. See the detailed timeline here [1] Let’s cross
our fingers!
Meanwhile, the software communities are invited to discuss and further
develop their ideas. Please, make sure that each idea[2] has a minimum
of 2 mentors, and remember that one can be primary mentor only for one idea.
Each idea should clearly indicate the required skills (example:
programming language(s), standard(s), etc) and a test or an exercise,
tailored so that, if the student can develop it, it most likely has the
skills to develop the related project. This could be asking them to fix
a non trivial bug, submit a patch, etc. This is to make sure that they
are familiar with the source code and the development environment, and
have the necessary skills.
Remember that mentors are required to test would-be students.
If you have doubts, don’t hesitate to contact us at gsoc-admin at osgeo.org.
Cheers!
the OSGeo GSoC Admin Team 2017
