Hi Cameron,
Thank you for raising this important point on the need for coordinated collaboration with periodic release cycles, development guidelines and templates, and quality control etc for educational materials for Data Science training needs. I will bring this up for discussions and work to find a solution. I dont have the answer now on which is the best route to secure some funding for dedicated saff time for this but i am sure, we will find some ideas from our communities.
I am also involved with International Council for Science (ICSU) 's Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) . I am part of the Task Group on Building Foundational Training in Research Data Science (with RDA) [1] where also this coordinated collaboration is key . I think this is definitely of interest to RDA, CODATA and other like minded communities working for Openness. I am ccing and introducing Dr. Simon Hodson (Executive Director of CODATA ) into these discussions as it is important we plan joint efforts.
Simon - If you are planning to come to RDA Barcelona meetings , please attend our meetings. If not, i am happy to arrange a telemeeting at your convinient time to discuss details. Thanks.
Best wishes,
Suchith

Hi Suchith,
I won't be able to attend this meeting, but have suggestions for the item: "Ideas for Education programs for Geospatial Data Science".
I believe that the educational initiatives would benefit from coordinated collaboration, processes similar to those used in software development, with periodic release cycles, development guidelines and templates, and quality control etc.
Most on this list would have seen me suggest that training initiatives could build upon OSGeo-Live processes [1], so I won't go into detail here.
The key element to determine is whether there is a sponsor willing to step up with sponsorship of a paid resource to make this happen. (I believe it extends the bandwidth of volunteer time).
