Suchith, I agree with Marc's points.

I notice a similar discussion on the OSGeo Board thread about joining GEO.


I think there is little value in setting up "trophy" MOUs or becoming 
members of communities unless we have specific community members who are 
actively wanting to get involved. So steps I'd suggest:

1. Find our community members who want involvement

2. If our community members feel that joining some external group will 
help our community be more effective, then OSGeo supports them in the 
activity.


At the moment, I don't think we have passed step 1 yet.
