Dear Colleagues,

Today is *Geospatial Information Systems day* (*GIS day*).

To mark this day we are very pleased to announce the launch of our new *United
Nations Geospatial website* at www.un.org/geospatial.

We hope the *UN Geospatial* website will further promote the role of
geospatial information for a better world by delivering stronger support to
the mandates of the United Nations.

The new website provides some of the key products from the former website,
including the current general map collection and maps on the latest
deployment of UN peacekeepers. New features include web-mapping services
available to all, a gallery of examples of earth observation, available UN
Secretariat services, thematic products, work programmes, partnerships, a
history of geospatial information in the United Nations and more.

The *UN Geospatial* website will be further enhanced in the coming months
with publications, new products, and we hope to work with you in the coming
period to further collaborate on the promotion of geospatial activities in
the United Nations and in the world.
