Dear colleagues

GeoEthics is an important topic that needs more attention and GeoEthics Awareness Dialogues are a way to build and share ideas for developing GeoEthics and ethical business practices. It is important to find the courage to speak out on ethical issues affecting humanity.

“The world has enough for everyone's needs, but not everyone's greed" - Mahatma Gandhi

I am interested to learn more on Ethics of GIS Vendor Feudalism/Colonialism in GIS Education as I am writing an article on GIS education.

Does current GIS curriculums support GIS Vendor Feudalism/Colonialism in GIS Education ? If so, why?

What policies and curriculum are universities, educators adopting to reduce GIS Vendor Feudalism/Colonialism in GIS education?

Does your course cover topics on data rights, digital citizenship ?

Are there any university policies and code of conduct to follow if any academics/researchers are funded by any GIS vendor (for example, through GIS vendor funded faculty posts , research funding by any GIS vendors)?

Can academics and researchers publish articles on GIS education promoting the vendor products (either directly or indirectly)?

GeoEthics Awareness Dialogues are informal and can be part of any meetings, events , conferences etc in the GIS community (for example in Geography Awareness week, GIS Day, GEO meetings , OGC meetings, GEO week etc) to build and share ideas for developing GeoEthics and ethical business practices.

Ethical frameworks in governance at all levels (from global to national to local) are important to protect democracy, protect human rights and prevent corruption.

Best wishes
