Hello,
a) On Sep. 21 in a remote hamlet in Southern Tuscany, we will be having an
interdisciplinary event which will include a "micro-exhibition" with maps,
among other features (please see https://www.pibinko.org/jubelfest/ for a
presentation of the event).
These will range from 100-year-old maps of our region (where we see place
names were different, or roads where colored by slope, possibly since there
were few cars and travellers needed to know where the steep bits were), to
other interesting paper maps which are part of our collection.
We will then have online maps about our own projects (
https://www.pibinko.org/maps/)
b) Since we also like to take these events as an opportunity to promote
geographic free/open-source software and data [1], if you have cool maps
you would like to share, we can "embed" them in our exhibition, with a link
to you, your instituion etc.
This will help our initiative to provide more diversity, and your map to be
seen by an audience that you might not reach otherwise.
The definition of "cool map" is a bit fuzzy and subjective, I realize...we
can evaluate case by case (e.g. a map I like from our collection is the
survey on hand-made crochet Christmas trees
<https://www.pibinko.org/a-summary-of-the-first-italian-survey-of-hand-made-crochet-hook-christmas-trees/>
we did last year, or a map I saw years back with the plot of ships taken
from 200 years of navigation logs aroun 1600-1700 from British, Dutch, and
Spanish ships...)...it could either be a map representing "cool"
information with simple technology, or a "special FX" map showing "boring"
data in an unexpected way...
For organizational reasons, we can interact on this until Sep. 19...after
that date we will need to dive on more "live" aspects of the event (but we
can follow up after Sep. 22).
TIA for your attention, and best regards from Southern Tuscany!

[1] for those of you who were not on this list in 2008, please check the
short video which was our first exercise in this direction:
https://www.pibinko.org/riflessioni-sul-tematismo-on-free-open-source-geographic-information/,
and check https://www.pibinko.org/promotion-communication-facilitation/ for
more interdisciplinary events where maps are involved with other topics
p.s. The Sep. 21 event is for the pibinko.org network also the opening of a
season of events and initiatives that we are planning through June 2026,
and there will be more mapping activites to follow, so this "map exchange"
exercise can also be an opportunity to establish new connections for
collaboration (please see https://www.pibinko.org/services/ and
https://www.pibinko.org/effects-of-the-pibinko-org-network/ for the context
in which our mapping work takes place)
