Hi Miles,
An alternative might be qgis2web. It's not quite the same as Story Maps,
but is current and maintained.
https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/qgis2web/
https://qgis2web.github.io/qgis2web/
It allows you to take a QGIS project (inc. layers, styles, symbology,
etc.) and publish it as a web map. You can insert this web page into any
existing webpage - so you could construct a series of maps on a web page.
