Dear edu.osgeo,
I don't know how many of you are on the UCGIS list, are resending these a waste of time & bandwidth?
I'm interested in this topic but haven't done much myself. Still, there might be room for paper which looks at the new FOSS4G tools from this perspective. Anybody geography-oriented interested enough to take the lead?
Ari

Using Geospatial Data in Geographic Education
July 2007
Geospatial data include imagery obtained through aerial or satellite
remote sensing, datasets formatted for use in geographic information
systems (GIS), and/or data obtained (e.g., in the field) using the global
positioning system (GPS). In recent years, such data have become
increasingly available, often at little or no cost. Moreover, persons who
wish to use geospatial data in teaching now have many tools at their
disposal including on-line viewers, free or low-cost software, web
applications such as Internet Map Services (IMS) and sites such as Google
Earth. This special issue of The Journal of Geography will focus on new
and innovative approaches to using geospatial data in teaching geography.
Manuscripts may focus on aspects of teaching geography at any level.
Please note that the emphasis of this issue is not on teaching remote
sensing or GIS, but on using such data and technologies to provide
instruction in the principles of geography.
All submissions will be peer-reviewed in accordance with established
policies of The Journal of Geography. Details for preparing manuscripts
are outlined in The Journal of Geography Guide for Authors -
http://www.ncge.org/publications/journal/ However, instead of five paper
copies, it is preferred that manuscripts for this special issue be
submitted in PDF format (including both text and illustrations)
electronically, via email, to the guest editor. All manuscripts submitted
for consideration must be received by November 30, 2006.
