I really like the idea, but I think the dataset is still too complex. As 
Manning said, you can run a series of basic exercises with very little 
data to start with. I think that maybe we should try to use some of the 
global datasets (SRTM, Landsat, Globcover, Vmap0, GSHHS, etc) and 
develop a a tutorial based on that. No problems with having to adapt 
names or anything, since you could use the same dataset all over the 
world, just extracting the locally relevant bounding box.
