[El] pcraster support in GDAL/OGR 1.7.2 release

Your're mixing gdal as in EPEL and gdal es in El-GIS. They depent on different GEOS versions.
You could try to build from sources. In the "./configure" stage enable as few options as needed, for the others peek at gdal.spec to see how to enable things like tiff and geotiff.
