Thanks Mathieu for your help and willingness.

I followed your instructions, and now I have Qgis 1.6.0 with GDAL 1.7.3
on my system, with PCRaster support properly enabled.

However, I wanted to mention 2 issues that arose while I was installing
qgis and gdal:

1) When I tried to install qgis-devel-1.6.0_3.el5.elgis and
qgis-python-1.6.0_3.el5.elgis I got the following error message:

"Missing Dependency: proj = 4.7.0-1.el5.elgis is needed by package
proj-epsg-4.7.0-1.el5.elgis.i386 (elgis)
Missing Dependency: proj = 4.7.0-1.el5.elgis is needed by package
proj-nad-4.7.0-1.el5.elgis.i386 (elgis)"

and I end up not installing them

2) After installing the new version of qgis and gdal, I typed on the
system console:

$ gdalinfo --version

and I got:

GDAL 1.7.2, released 2010/04/23

do I need to restart the machine to be able to use gdal 1.7.3 on the
console ?

Thanks again,

Mauricio
