I am afraid this has a pretty low priority.

When we will have time for EL5, we will update the current packages to
newer micro versions, but not merge all the work that has been done in
Fedora/EPEL as we do for EL6.

My company doesn't have any EL5 left with GIS stuff on it, and we
already wish we could allocate more resources to the maintenance of
ELGIS6.
